Coding Spotlight - Python
Python is one of the most popular programming languages around because of how relatively straight forward it is to pick up, plus it's often the first language taught in most programming classes - but don’t let that fool you into thinking any less of it! Python is an incredibly powerful language that can be used to write various styles of programming. It has a large number of existing libraries, a very readable syntax, and the ability to scale even the most complex applications that cannot be matched. Python also has a very active open-source community that is continuously updating and improving the Python knowledge base, ensuring that Python will stay a dynamic and relevant language for the foreseeable future. Despite its simplicity, Python is also a language that serves as the bedrock of many revolutionary technologies like ML, AI, IoT and Data Science.
It should come as no surprise then that Python is the most popular programming language to learn in 2020 according to PYPL (Popularity of Programming Language Index), which monitors the frequency of searches for different programming language tutorials, showing an almost 19% growth over the last 5 years. Being a proficient Python developer can also be very lucrative. Due to the increase in demand for AI and ML talent globally, Python developers usually rank at the top of surveys on in-demand tech jobs. As such, they usually pull in higher salaries compared to developers specializing in older languages, like Java or C++.
In conclusion, the dual use of Python in both development and data science would indicate a bright future ahead. Whether you’re a Computer Science student or a seasoned developer, Python is one language you shouldn’t hesitate to pick up if you can!
